Once the Mayor’s Cup Championship races were over, the gun fired one last time for the Franklin Park 5k. This one last event was the Master’s XC Championship and an opportunity for open athletes not eligible for the open championship events a chance to compete in a prestigious cross country event.

The overall top finishers for the race were former Wesleyan University standout Bryan Marsh and Ravenna Neville, who posted times of 15’44” and 19’25”. The BAA Masters Men proved to be the class of the 40+ championship once again, as Mike Galoob and Chris Magill took the 3rd and 4th overall positions to lead the squad. The blue and gold even blew away the masters field without one of their top harriers as Peter Hammer finished top master in the Men’s Championship 8k. The Western MAss Distance Project fielded the best Women’s MAsters team on the day, with Maura McDonald, Dana Parrot, Ruthie Ireland snagging the 2, 3, 4 masters positions. Greater Lowell Road Runner Trish Bourne crossed the line as the top master (and senior!) athlete as she cruised the course in 20’43”.

Mike Giberti provided some short video coverage of the event:

And you can never forget about Scott Mason’s spectacular photography either!
