Father-Son Duo Sweeps the Apple Orchard

The Greater Derry Track Club kicked off the XC season Sunday evening as they hosted the 18th Annual Mack’s Run for the Apples. The fun, low-key event brought runners around one of four Londonderry, NH apple orchards and along the Adams Pond Trail. No records were broken in times or attendance, but one thing did occur that has never happened in the history of the race: The top two overall finishers were a father and his son. After placing second to Josh Grant’s course record finish last year, Mike DiMauro (Woburn, MA) raced himself to a clear victory in 17’05” over the 2.9 mile race course with 16 year old son Matthew DiMauro outkicking Forest Mackenzie for runner-up honors through the line in 17’38”. Pretty neat, huh? On the women’s side, 14 year old Kalin Gregoire (Londonderry, NH) took her third straight Mack’s Apple’s victory as the top female to finish. Kalin covered the course in 20’15” to beat out Alexandra Seeley (20’27”) and Greater Derry TC’s Caryn Pepin (21’46”). The event concluded with a hot dog and corn chowder cookout along with some freshly squeezed lemonade, which always satisfies the post-race sweet tooth.
