Last day of Early Bird registration for August 23 race is Monday, August 4; Manitou Experience, a Central Maine bereavement camp for boys, named charity beneficiary

PORTLAND, ME – Early Bird Registration for the inaugural Maine Mile ends at 12:01am on Tuesday, August 5. Prices will jump from $15 (adult) and $12 (youth) to $18 (adult) and $15 (youth). The Maine Mile promises to be a unique event, starting at 7:30pm (yes, in the evening) on Saturday, August 23 and running a flat, fast, and scenic one-mile road route on Portland, Maine’s Baxter Boulevard before finishing in Payson Park.

“Every runner gets asked, ‘How fast can you run a mile?’ ” said Race Director Eli Asch. “This race is designed so that every New England runner will be able to answer that question—and with as fast a course as ours is, answer with a time that makes them proud! Additionally, our picturesque route and start time are designed to highlight the best that Portland, Maine has to offer in the late summer.”

Manitou Experience, a free camp for boys who have suffered a death-loss held annually in Oakland, Maine, has been named the race’s charity beneficiary and will receive a portion of Maine Mile proceeds. Additionally, the event is hosting a Maine High School Challenge, where registrants are encouraged to input the name of the Maine high school they root for. The school with the most fans will receive a donation to its athletics program.

There will be custom awards for the top-3 overall men’s and women’s finishers as well as for the first finisher in each ten-year age group. Veteran Maine road race management company 5k Sports will provide timing, results, and start and finish line services.
