Run 4 Kerri: Men’s Elite Field Announced

We previewed the women’s elites earlier in the week, and now RD Scott Bessette shares with us his  men’s field for this Sunday’s Run 4 Kerri. Looks like it’s going to be a great race.

The Leaders…….

Sam Alexander

Sam Alexander

2012 Run 4 Kerri winner, 2013 runner up of the B.A.A. will return and look to regain his throne.  Alexander is currently an assistant coach at his alma mater Central Connecticut State where is excelled in both cross country and track and field.  The Waterford Ct native, is the owner of the 4th and 6th fastest times on the Run 4 Kerri course. He has represented the USA at the 8k Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross Country race.  Most recently Alexander toed the line at the Blessing of the Fleet 10 mile running to a 4th place finish  in 52:06.

Matt Pelletier

Pelletier is the only 2x champion of the Run 4 Kerri winning the 2002 and 2008, more impressively he has finished in the top ten 9x in the 12 year history of the race.  Pelletier owns at 2:17:17 marathon PR that was achieved at the 2008 Olympic Trials.  Pelletier is hot off his victory at the 2014 Blessing of the Fleet 10 mile in a time of 50:01 and looks to lower his 4 mile PR of 19:36 Sunday.

Will Sanders

Sanders has been a speed demon since I can remember (editors note:  I remember racing Will at the Bristol CT Shamrock 2 mile and thinking who the hell is this kid with the glasses and ponytail).  Sanders is the 2011 Run 4 Kerri Champion, last year he drew the field out early leading through the mile at 4:18 he was able to hold on to run 19:47.1 for 4th.  Will has never been afraid to lay it all on the line winning many New England races from leading taking the lead at the gun.  It’s that lack of a fear that creates some amazing times.

Amos Sang

Sang, an Abilene Christian University graduate, and Kenyan will make his debut at the Run 4 Kerri.  I am sure those who follow track and field and road racing are familiar with his performances.  He has recently finished 2nd at the Little Compton 4.8 miler running 22:56, and 5th place overall at 1:06:20 for the Fairfield Half Marathon.  Amos has a lifetime PR of 1:03:39 for the half marathon and 13:44 at the Westfield 5k.  He is expected to compete for the overall win and push the pace along the way.

Glarius Rop

Rop is transplant Kenyan who attended American International College and was an all American.  He owns a lifetime PR of 14:23 at the Westfield 5k and 1:08:28 at the Fairfield Half.

Nick Ross

Ross, excelled as top high school runner not only regionally but nationally while at East Greenwich High (RI).  Ross took his talents to LaSalle University he competed in many mid and long distance races. Nick has been a member of our Elite program now for a few years and we take great pride in supporting his development.  Ross has finished 3rd in 2011, 6th in 2012.  His 6th place finish at the 2012 edition was 19:46 placing him just outside of the Top 10 times and in most years could win you the race.

Chase Pizzonia

Danbury (CT)  native and Iona College Gael, Pizzonia is an accomplished runner.  At Danbury he was the indoor 3200M champion, and finished 14th at the New England High School Cross Country Championships.  While competing for the Gaels he won the IC4A outdoor 10k championship in 30:04.  Since graduation he has taken to the roads running PRs of 14:58 for 5k, 30:30 for 10k and 1:07:15 for the half.

Louis Serafini

Recent graduate of Boston College (’13), Lou has continued to feed his love for running by continuing to run competitively and manage the Heartbreak Hill Running Company.  With lifetime PRS of 4:08 (mile), 8:22 (3k), 14:37 (5k) he will be in the mix up front.

Jeff Wadecki

Wadecki is a Ledyard, CT self-made elite.  Running under the shadows of the greats of the region (John J. Kelly (the younger) and Amby Burfoot) he continues to train hard and race harder.  Jeff owns lifetime PRs of 15:27 (5k) and 2:28:36 (marathon).

Matt Ely

Matt was the 2010 Run 4 Kerri Champion in 19:56.  Ely was a staple figure on the roads in New England running for the BAA until he and his wife Brett (who is also in the women’s field) moved to Eugene Oregon.   We are lucky to catch them in town for their vacation.  While Matt says he isn’t in top form, we are sure he will perform well.

DJ Principe

The younger Principe….DJ has made quite an impression on all of those who have seen him duke it out with the “big boys”  in the last two years.  In 2012 at his first Run 4 Kerri DJ finished 16th 22:36.  Last year at the age of 14 he announced himself as forced to be reckoned with finishing in 12th in a deep field in a time of 21:31.  We are excited to watch his development and support him going forward.

Eric Lonergan

Rhode Island Born, Rhode Island bred North Kingstown native and RIC graduate Lonergan has been a long term supporter of the Run 4 Kerri.  He has finished in the top 5 positions 3x’s finishing 2nd at the 2010 edition.

Pat Moulton

Moulton, PC grad was the 2009 runner up to Patrick Tarpy.  His life time PRS include 14:11 (5k), 29:11 (10k), 2:15:35 (marathon) and 1:05:28 (1/2).  He recently placed 5th at the Blessing of the Fleet in 53:20 and 3rd place at the Gaspee Day 5k – 15:32.

Luke Albertson

Norwich Free Academy (CT) Lifetime PRs 15:21 (5k) and 53:30 (10 Mile)

Anthony Goncalves

Central Connecticut State University and Providence College runner with lifetime PRs of 15:05. Infamous for going after the time bonus at the 2013 edition with Will Sanders.
