For those of you who have heard of the Good Times 5k Series Yankee Timing holds on Tuesday evenings each spring and summer, you may think of it as more of a fun series where Merrimack Valley locals gather to enjoy some friendly competition and post-race adult beverages. Little did we know that Cape Verde Olympian Ruben Sanca was going to make a presence for a little Tuesday Night Time Trial action at one of these events. Last night was the night! Sanca dominated the race in 15’30” to take the win by just under three minutes. He was alone straight off the gun. On the women’s side, last year’s Master’s National 10k female champion Kara Haas was the top finisher in 19’05”. Pretty incredible considering its one of her first races back after giving birth to her second child about a month and a half ago. May not seem like the best times they’ve run, but the conditions were wet, hot, and humid. There was even a large puddle in the middle of the course that caused runners to swing wide and add a good 20-30 meters to the race! (Well it’s either that, or go for a mid-race swim).
Check out some video coverage of last night’s race:
The remaining question: Were Sanca and Haas using this race as a tune-up for the LVL10K? We hope so.
