new balance 860V5 Shoe Review

by Jim Henry

newbalance 860v5 3The New Balance 860V5 is made for runners that require a moderate amount of stability and cushioning. To some it may feel a little bulky, but for the runner that requires support and cushion, this shoe is a very good choice.

The shoe has a nice comfortable feel with plenty of room in the toe box.  This is a positive because it can handle a wider variety of foot widths. The TBEAM technology used in the midsole provides a good deal of support with a slightly harder feel than previous versions.  The heel has a nice snug fit which enhances the overall stability of the ride.  The 860V5 provides a nice amount of guidance without the feel of being locked in a boot.  It gives a nice consistent ride that is solid and reliable.

The new upper is an improvement over version 4 with a more seamless design and lighter fabrics.  The lacing system has been improved with the addition of elastic laces and a midfoot strap.  This strap adds to the overall comfort by preventing the foot from sliding forward.  It’s a good looking shoe with great design elements…compliments to the designers.

Overall I like the 860V5 very much. It has responded nicely over 30+ miles of running.  The NB860 has been my go to shoe on long runs and marathon training for two plus years. Each version has been an improvement over the previous one and the V5 is no exception.  It is a nice competitor for the Asics GT2000 and Brooks Ravenna.  I’ve worn both of these shoes as well and always return to the NB860.
